The Kingborough District Cricket Club are pleased to announce that Richard Cowlard has been appointed the Male Head coach for the 2021/22 season!
Richie/Ricardo/Gaz, as he is known by some around the club has a wealth of coaching experience that he has acquired over the last few years.
Born in Gauteng South Africa, Richard demonstrated a keen interest in sports from a young age. He represented the KwaZulu-Natal Country Districts team during his time playing and then worked as a personal trainer guiding others to build sustainable training habits and a healthy lifestyle.
Moving to Australia in 2012, he began sharpening his coaching skills at local clubs in the North-West. In the last 8 years he has been coaching in various Cricket Tasmania pathway programs which he has done a tremendous job at mentoring the future talent of the State.
Richard came to the Knights in 2018/19 as the U17 Coach after landing a Physical Education teaching Job in the Huonville. He has since coached the U17 boys to 2 finals and moved into the senior coaching space last year. His ability to create great relationships and trust with his players has been a product of his genuine care for the players that he coaches.
When asked what his focus was at KDCC he shared “I am extremely honoured to be appointed as Head Coach. KDCC have a strong pool of talented players across all age groups. Their personal and professional development remains at the forefront of my mind. Leveraging off player passion, making considered and conscious leadership decisions whilst playing to individual strengths will provide significant opportunity for development this season”. Richard is excited to welcome a new club sponsor, uniforms and coaching group, highlighting this as an opportunity for club growth.
On behalf of the Club and playing group we are excited to have Richard lead us into the 2021/22 season. Hope he enjoys the challenges to come.
