VALE Keith Schmidt (1921 – 2017)
The KDCC lost one of its finest cricketers on 4 Oct 2017 when its Team of the Century captain passed away just short of his 96th birthday. Keith was a product of the Huon and because of WW2 he didn’t play TCA cricket until 1945 at the age of 24. He made up for his late start by playing TCA cricket for the next 24 years retiring in 1969. His accomplishments were incredible and he was a wonderful gentleman as well. He was the 2nd most successful leg spin bowler in TCA History with 487 @ 16.91 each. He was probably considered to have been a better batsman scoring 7096 runs at a good average, for playing on poor 1950’s wickets. His total of 154 catches was the 4th highest in TCA history. He was the most reliable slips-fielder I ever had the pleasure of bowling to and he was 45-47 years of age at the time. When he retired from 1st Gd cricket he played 6 more seasons in 2nd Gd playing in the same team with his life time mates in Don Randell, Ray Stringer and Ron Bradburn.
